Here is a guide by AWP Boiler Installations and a walkthrough of how to bleed a radiator. If the water pressure drops out of the central heating system, or if there is a slight leak on the radiator pipework, air will collect in your radiators which would require bleeding to fix the heating.

Check for signs of trapped air by locating cold spots on your radiator, typically towards the top.
Make sure the boiler is turned off and be careful if the system is still hot, wait for it to cool down.
Have a square radiator key at hand and locate the bleed valve towards the top of the radiator.
Carefully attach the key to the bleed valve, ensuring you have a cloth or towel ready to catch any water spill.
Begin to turn the key anti clockwise slowly and you will hear the sound of air escape under pressure.
Once the air is expelled and liquid spills out from the bleed valve, turn the key clockwise to close the valve.
